I was on the NFL site. Shouldn't let me do that, but a few thing did pop out. Where will they play the Conference Championships Just wondering if Pittsburg can  get to the Super Bowl without going thru Foxborough.

The NFL in there infinite wisdom has changes the rules in the event of a tied game during the playoffs.  It's not quite as complicated as determining wildcards but crib notes would definitely help.

"Beginning Saturday, sudden-death as we know it is history -- until next regular season.

Unlike regular-season overtime rules that have been in place for years, both teams could have the chance to score in overtime, even if the first team with the ball kicks a field goal. Normally, the team to score first, regardless of how, wins.

If a field goal is made on the first possession of overtime, the other team gains possession. If that team scores a touchdown, game over. If it kicks a field goal to tie, then the next team to score wins. The only way the game ends on the first possession is if that team scores a touchdown or if the defense forces a safety or returns a turnover for a score."

In the past it was only possible to have a maximum of 6 points scored in overtime, this creates all sorts of possibilities.

I still like the college version better, this looks like a missfuck just begging to happen.

First, yes the Steelers could get to the Super Bowl without having to play at New England...if the Patriots loose in the Divisional Round. In that case, assuming a Steeler win, Pittsburgh would host the AFC Championship game. But as long as the Patriots win their first game, whomever survives the Steeler game will have to travel to New England on Sunday, January 23rd.

The new overtime rules, adopted for just the post season, will take some getting used to. Basically, they are trying to make sure each team has at least one possession (assuming the team that gets the ball first kicks only kicks a FG). Score a TD on your first possession, you win. Settle for a FG and the other team gets a crack at it. Hence, there will be a little more strategy involved. Team A could drive down on its first OT possession, and instead of kicking a FG on 4th and 1 from the opponents 10, maybe they go for it and try to win the game with a TD.

Like any rule change it will take some getting used to. In todays game, with kickoffs from the 30 yard line, teams are having good starting field position. Couple that with kickers today being able to hit 45 to 50 yarders, teams do not have to move the ball that much (perhaps only 30-40 yards) to get in FG range. Teams winning the coin flip are more likely to win...the NFL is trying to counteract this.

The only negative is that the game may end very anticlimatically (i.e. Team A kicks a FG, team B throws an incomplete pass on 4th down from its own 20 yard line...game over).

I don't mind the NFL trying something different, but I don't like the fact that it is only implemented for the playoffs. I never like rule changes just for the post season. They should have adopted the rule for the entire season.

Someboy has to go to New England to play. Now that's only 22 miles south of Boston and a long drive from New York City! The weather could be bad, you could lose you way in the dark, car trouble, road rage, the scalpers could cheat you, you could freeze your ass off, andy number of things.

Best you stay home and watch it on your TV. Just thinking of you Hardy. LOL I think the Steelers have a damn good chance of getting to the AFCC and it will probably be with NE. And I got a feeling your thinking the same.
