Willie Mays was amongst the greatest players ever, superior to A-Rod, and loved as much in NY as The Clipper, Mickey, Yogi, Whitey, dem Bums, Donnie Baseball, DJ, et al. His appeal crossed over to us fans who rooted for other NY teams...we all loved Willie, and appreciated his greatness as a player. Only Babe Ruth could have been considered to be better...
Liorr why do you make these statments. ARod is damn good but the greatest ever he is not and he would say so himself.
Even among active players his lifetime BA of .303 isn't steller, good, solid but not outstanding. He has 17 years in and may well be approaching the end of his career, two more years 3 at the most and his stats will have to stand. Pujols .331 looks better to me and he hits a home run now and again. Pujols has 10 years in and probably 5 to 7 more years. He could well pass ARod in most if not all stats.
Just on lifetime batting average which is a single stat, ARod is 117 on the list, all time. There are 9 active players that have a higher BA than ARod with A. Pujols being one of them. A single stat doesn't make an all time great, but these guys are paid to hit, generate runs and get on base. If they are good at a position thats a plus.
ARod all time greatest, NOT, damn good player, hell yes. Even if he does play for the Damn Yankees!
Ted Williams could certainly show ARod a thing or two about batting. Unfortunately a little diversion called the Korean War got in the middle of Williams career. He was a USMC fighter pilot during that time. Damn good one too.

First off, you didn't say all-star, you said greatest player ever. Charlton Heston is the only one who took anyone to the promised land and like ARod they both had help. In Heston's case it was Cecil B. Demille, and in Arod's it was Jetter and the boys. As for rings, unless ARod and Pujols are planning on opening a jewelry store when they retire the number of rings don't make you the greatest ever. As far as "Star Power", he has more hype. He plays in NY, and the NY papers blow smoke up your skirt and it fogs you glasses so you can't see. You want star power go to Hollywood or check on your regional board.
Now if you read and understood my post, I did not put ARod down. I said for the greatest ever there are a few ahead of him, and in the final analysis he will be a very good to great player, the greatest, NOT. I lean more towards the great but away from the greatest, steroids included. As for Ruth taking something, it is well documented and he admitted he took booze and food with an occasional woman.
