Roger Clemens has signed a minor league contract with the Sugar Land Skeeters, an independent league team near Houston. Some on ESPN are wildly speculating that Clemens could wind up pitching for the Astros in September. This is another sign that the apocalypse is upon us!

that if you offered a pill to any major league baseball player and told him it would add 50 points to his batting average but take 5 years off his life, there was not a single player that would turn it down. That was in the early 70's.

Sure, it's the money. Take the pill and add years to your career at bigger salaries, or retire and go to work at Dick's Sporting Goods? Yeah, I'm sure none of you would take that pill if it was ILLEGAL, oh my god no.

Bouton also said that you spend years gripping a baseball, and in the end it turns out it was the other way around. If you never played the game beyond Little League, you won't understand that statement. If you did play the game - REALLY play the game - you know that you will do absolutely anything to stay in it.
