Ichiro got two hits today.  That puts him at 200 hits for the season.   He has broken his own record of 9 years in a row with 200 hits, and tied Pete Rose for the most 200 hit season at 10.  I suspect baring a serious injury he will break his own record again next season and set a new record for the most 200 hit season ever.   He is without a doubt the greatest hitter I have ever seen.  I suspect by the time he is done his total hits in Japan and America will be more the Pete Rose's hit total.   It's been treat to watch him play in Seattle these last 10 years, and in some season, (like this one) he is about the only reason to watch the M's.

[Ichiro] is without a doubt the greatest hitter I have ever seen.
What would you say if I told you there was a fellow who came into the league the same year Ichiro did, but has higher career batting average (slightly higher, but higher nonetheless), four times as many career home runs, twice as many career RBIs, fifty points higher in career On-Base %, and two hundred points higher in career Slugging %?

Would you concede that such a fellow is the better hitter?

And would you be talking about Albert Pujols by any chance? I think Big was saying Ichiro was the best hitter he personnaly watched play. But I'm sure you didn't mean to ridicule his comment.

As for Albert. Well I think you statement might be wrong and here is why. You said fellow, which implies human. Homo sapien, Pujols is definately not human. I saw the ads on TV where it was reveled he is a highly tunned robitic hitting machine. I saw part of a St Louis game just the other day, maybe ten min. and Albert made an error. Those engeneers ought to work on that. Beside, whoever herd of an ball player named Albert.

LOL

I'm not a fan of Pujols.  But his numbers are staggering.  You have to go back to Ruth and Gehrig and Foxx and Williams to find better decades of hitting.

Makes me wonder if he's clean.  On the one hand I hope he's not, because I don't like him and I don't want him to (cleanly) break a bunch of records.  On the other hand, it would be another big blow to the game's image, and I don't like seeing the game tarnished.

Until proven otherwise I guess we have to assume he is clean. And yea his numbers are getting huge. I'm not a big St Louis fan but I do like AP, guess we differ there. For me all time best is maybe Williams or Mantle but I'm sure that could be handly debated.

One thing we can agree on I think. This is the best time of the year for baseball. Now it really get good, crunch time, playoffs and World Series.

how many 200 hit season does he have?
