Please, forget Chick Hearn. He way way overrated and in his later years made way too many mistakes for a professional announcer and should have been taken off the air.
I heard this morning the Enberg was retiring from NBC, but he would still do San Diego Padre games from time to time as a guest announcer. One of the true good guys, he ranks up there with Vin Scully, Jack Buck, Skip Caray, Mel Allen and Red Barber, to name a few.
He was the Lakers broadcaster for 40+ years. He coined some good quotes. Most people don't know he coined "Slam Dunk", plus who could forget, "You can put this one in the refrigerator. The door's closed, the light's out, the eggs are cooling, the butter's getting hard, and the jello is jiggling."
And yes to Vin Scully. No one could tell a story better than Vin.
I used to listen to Dick Enberg when he was the announcer for the Rams, the LA Rams back in the 70s.
Please, forget Chick Hearn. He way way overrated and in his later years made way too many mistakes for a professional announcer and should have been taken off the air.
hi, Sarge, wasn't it Pee Wee Reese and Dizzy on the Game of the Week? Remember when Dizzy got into trouble with the network commenting on two lovers in the stands when he stated that 'wasn't that sweet, he's kissing her on the strikes and she's kissing him on the balls!' ar ar-Later, Buddy-1rob...out
Yeah looks like CRS struck again, I knew that it was one of the two. Those were some great old times, and some colorful players and announcers, and always on black and white TV, no cable or satelite!
