If a team goes 84-78, it will finish the season 6 games over .500.

If a team goes 78-84, it will finish the season 6 games under .500.

Donald Trump

I hate rumors.... but I hope he does take over the Mets, then hires back Willie,,,,,,making him an offer he can't refuse.

If Trump got a controlling interest in the team or just bought the team as sole owner.

Wonder how many times he would say "YOU'RE  FIRED" the first day ?

As for this season I predict they finish .500 plus or minus 3 games.

Thank you

You know it is impossible to 3 games over or under .500 at the end of the season, right?

for a team to finish .500 they will win 81 games so if a team wins 84 games that is 3 games over and if they win only 78 games that is 3 games under. Therefore winning between 78 and 84 games is finishing the season .500 plus or minus 3 games right?
I did say games not % points.

You can SAY it any way you want to, but in baseball, a single win or loss is considered a half a game.

So, late in the season, you'll see a team that is 90-60 listed as a "half game out" when the leading team is 91-60. And, when they finish with an equal 162 games, the team that is 100-62 is three games ahead of the team that is 97-65.

You win, coach :-)

The "half game" phenomenon is not limited to baseball, correct?  But that is only used to calculate how many games back/ahead a team may be, relative to another team.

Let's say a baseball team is 10-10 (.500) early it's season.  It then proceeds to go an a nine game winning streak to put their record to 19-10.  How many game over .500 are they? Is it not 9?

Let's say that same team is 78-78 (.500) going into it's final home stand on the season.  It then proceeds to get swept in it's next six games to put their record at 78-84.  How many games under .500 are they?
