With all the talk about Matt Flynn getting a huge contract and where he will end up, I can't help but think, when has this ever worked out?
I cannot think of one quarterback that had one or even a few great games, signed a huge contract to go somewhere to be the starter and then SUCCEEDED.
For every Matt Cassell with mediocre success, I always remember Scott Mitchell, or even Trent Green when he went to KC or as recent as Kevin Kolb.
Just curious if anybody can think of someone.

I believe his body of work was more then Flynn's, but it wasn't a lot and he turned out okay. He seems to be the exception to the rule.

Jim Plunkett, Kurt Warner, Steve Young, Brett Favre, Drew Brees, etc.

Thank you for proving my point, those were all established quarterbacks when they moved on, I was asking about one hit wonders, your Kevin Kolb who had a couple of good games in Philadelphia, signs a big deal in Arizona, gets injured and is not living up to the hype.  Scott Mitchell played 8-9 good games in the 90's signed a big deal in Detroit and was never heard from again....  so what would you pay Matt Flynn?

Steve Young wasn't established as a top; NFL QB in Tampa Bay before going to the 49ers and Favre was an unknown in Atlanta before Green Bay grabbed. Plunkett was a bust before the Raiders.

Your examples are way off.  He said a (backup) player who only played a few games. Not all free agent QBs ever.

Plunkett- Former #1 overall pick and NE starter

Warner- Superbowl and NFL MVP

Young- Signed to be a backup and eventual successor to Montana

Favre-  over 10 years as a stater, two Super Bowls

Brees- Pro Bowl Starter with SD when he became a free agent.
