Can you say Joe Torre for Manager of the Year?regular_smile

I hate the Dodgers (notice a pattern of how I feel about LA teams?  It's a San Diego thing! ;), but Joe Torre is a class act.  The guy deserved better from New York after all he did for them and the media circus he put up with and navigated the team around, and what he is doing in LA is proof positive of that.  He totally handled the Manny thing correctly with his team and they haven't even flinched in their performance since.

The game tonight was a perfect example.  Milton has pitched well this year, but Torre gives him the hook with a guy on third base as the batter has almost a .500 clip against him lifetime. Mota comes in and ends the rally and he and the rest of the relievers stop the scoring, team rallies against Lidge in the ninth to break the Phillies winning streak (after they just destroyed the Madres here in San Diego earlier in the week).

Dodgers are loose and believe in themselves, in spite of the Manny circus.

As he did with the Yankees in the mid-90's, he is creating a winning environment with a bunch of talented kids and a few specific veterans in LA.  Be afraid, National League...be very afraid.  Torre knows how to do it.

Francisco, Dusty Baker at Cincinnati and Ken Macha with Milwaukee all deserve some consideration. And don't forget Tony LaRussa with the Cardinals.

Milwaukee and the Cards are the only REAL playoff contenders of the four, and none has the pressure Torre has of expectations and the media.

it's a little early to start talking about manager of the year.  Having said that, he'd be my pick at the moment.

I have been saying that since he took over the YANKEES.

It was sad and insulting what the Stienbrenners
did

As a 50+ year YANKEES fan in my opinion Joe T and Casey are the two best and most brilliant manages
in YANKEE history, and among the very best in MLB history.
Oh and they were both pretty successful too.
Is there antone who has more rings as a manager?

YOGI has 10 the most, as a player. of anyone player or mgr. or both.

GO YANKEES
2009 = 27

but he can not take the mound. Unless the Dodgers make a mid-season move for an established starter (and I fully expect them to), they will not be successful is a playoff series.

They are really gonna miss a playoff veteran like Derek Lowe. My Dad told me this 45 years ago and it is still true. Baseball is a game where 3 things are important (especially in the playoffs)....pitching, pitching and pitching.
