Back from my trip to Pittsburgh. Even a Steeler die hard like Hardy can appreciate an excellent football game even if his team doesnt win.

From a Steeler perspective, I thought the offense finally moved the ball with a little more consistency. They had been struggling to score TD's the last few weeks. The offensive line still has problems protecting Roethlisberger, but on the positive side, they did open up some good running lanes for Mendenhall. Defensively, they were strong although its obvious that without Polamalu, they are far less agressive in their blitz packages. They can't take as many chances as Troy covers up a lot of mistakes if the blitzing backers don't get the sack. Special teams was disappointing...hard to win tight games giving up a TD on the opening kick and allowing the Jets to down a few punts inside the five yard line. But its a part of the game that can often be the difference. Overall, 10-4 is solid, and they are back in the playoffs (hopefully they can hold off the Ravens, who are really playing well, to win the AFC North.....and allow Hardy to attend a home playoff game!!)

Now, from the Jets perspective. All I heard was how "lucky" the Jets were to be 9-2. After two straight defeats (one complete debacle at the hands of the Pats), many TER members (and media around the country) wanted to bury the Jets and claim they were frauds. As I said, you don't "luck" your way into  a solid NFL record. And winning in Pittsburgh shows you that the Jets are a very good team. Are they Super Bowl worthy? At this point, its going to be hard to beat New England in New England, but the Jets have just as much chance as any AFC team to do so. They will prob. need a bit more out of Sanchez than he showed in Pittsburgh (they were very conservative with him, but he made no mistakes) to challenge in the playoffs, but they are legitimate contenders. Like the Ravens/Steelers, the Jets play a tough physical brand of football (some say boring), but its a style that is relentless and you really have to stay in and fight for 60 minutes.

Balanced assesment of the game. I thought the Steelers were a little short on Defense and lackluster on offense. But I think that's what you said. I also think the Jets were a little lucky but played well over all.

Just a few unanswered questions about the playoffs remain and you'll know where you have to go to see the Steelers play. Unless they get healthy, really fast, I don't think you have to go to Texas this year.

I think NE is the strongest team in the AFC but can't figure out the NFC. Hard to sort out the Falcons, Bears and Eagles. If the Falcons had a little better defense or the Bears were a little bit better on Offense.

Still the ball bounces funny and the best team sometime won't make it past the one and out drama.

Of course if I could make a deal with the devil the Cheifs would have a better defense and beat the Bears in the Super Bowl 14 to 7 in double overtime.

are suspended for being intoxicated, though the team has policy of offering free cab rides for any player. Coaches are suspended for tripping other players. Strange. A Hall of Fame QB is investigated for sending photographs of his private parts to a Jets reporter. Players are caught making lewd remarks towards a TV news reporter. the commish has to remind the Jets of the league's sexual harrassment policy. There is probably more but that is just top of my head.
