ESPN has reported that Don Mattingly will replace Joe Torre as Dodger manager after this season. An official announcement will be made prior to the Dodger game tonight.

We all knew that Torre would not be back next season and that Mattingly would be replacing him.  The only question now is who will be Mattingly's boss?  Looks like the team will be forced into sale in the near future.

I miss the O'Malley/Lasorda days.  You knew what you were getting.

The O'Malley/Alston days. You knew what you were getting and it wasn't gonna change anytime soon.

and have seen the days of glory-the players had heart and played their asses off-the last 22 years have been dismal with usually .500 baseball, occasional 1st round losses in the playoffs, and general choking at crunch time by overpaid underachievers who don't get it done-The Boys of Summer have become the 'Poster Boys of Mediocrity'-maybe new ownership blood will improve things-I can only hope-
1rob....venting a little....out

The oldest Dodger manager I remember was Walter Alston.

But I remember people in Chavese ravine talking about the Trolley Dodgers days in Brooklyn when I lived in Cali. My boss would give me the company tickets on the 3rd base line and the couple behind us were Trolley Dodgers. They retired to LA so they could watch the games.  She told a lot of great stories about the trolley days, going to the games and the trajic day they anounced the Dodgers were moving to LA. It was there 9/11. He watched the game and swore a lot which we all laughed at.

Wasn't trying to be a smart ass with the question.

were called that beginning in 1891-and the 'trolley' part was dropped around the early '30's-O'Malley had a good alternate site picked out to build his new stadium in Brooklyn but a guy named Robert Moses, a public works official, wouldn't approve it-I think the scumbag was a Yankee fan-As Ebbets Field was old and run down and with attendance not as great, he moved the team to LA and Chavez Ravine-Thanks for the write-1rob....Dodgers forever, Yankees NEVER....lol.....out    8-)

I started following the Dodgers in 52, when I was 8-thank goodness, I missed the heinous 51 season, when the pompous pantloads of the Polo Grounds came from 13 back to whip my gang-reportedly with the telescopic aid of stolen pitching signs from the outfield-I certainly believe this was the case-smile-
and Sailor, Walter Alston took over from Chuck Dressen in '54, when Dressen had a contract dispute that couldn't be resolved-Walter had the charisma of a rock but was there for 4 World Championships-55, 59, 63 and 65-1rob
