The Colts are expected to release Manning sometime today. As I said in a previous thread on the subject, I wish he would just retire. Neck injuries/surgeries are not to be taken lightly. Yes, I know he was throwing the ball hard in his workouts, but that was in shorts and t-shirt, not with a defensive end/linebacker coming at him and wanting to commit mayhem on his person. But if he does sign with another team, the favorite seems to be Miami. It'll be hard watching Peyton in another uniform, but whatever he does, I'll be pulling for him.
I know Irsay said it was not about the money, but just as when athletes say it, it is of course always about the money. Yes, they could have paid Peyton his 28 million dollar roster bonus and kept him on the team. But between his salary and what they will have to pay the # 1 pick (presumably Andrew Luck), the Colts would have tied up way too much money for just two players. (and if its Luck, two QB's)They would have had virtually no economic flexibility to re-build their roster. It was obvious months ago that they were going to release him.
There is no question Peyton is an all time great and thus will have a long list of teams lined up to bid on his services. Franchises are so desperate for a quality QB, that they will not only overpay to get him (let the bidding wars begin!) but will also not be deterred by his recent neck surgeries and his age. Teams will be willing to roll the proverbial dice for the chance to have him under center.
Well looks like 3 teams are in the running for Peyton. Miami, Denver and Phoenix. Well of course I would love to see him play for the Cardinals because we haven't had a good quarterback since Kurt Warner retired.
But if he does come here, why is it that the Cardinals seem to get players just before they retire? Personally I think they just want to play here then truly retire here in the warm weather and it is never really about winning.
The "J-E-S-T JEST JEST JEST" gave Mark Sanchez an extension, so they are out of the Manning sweepstakes. I wouldn't have expected Peyton to go to that circus anyway.
