It was the right decision, but

it should have been made earlier especially for those traveling to NYC.

How do you feel about the cancellation of the NY City Marathon this year because of Hurricane Sandy?
The races is such a tradition and New Yorkers are know for our hearty and unbreakable spirit.  So I at first I thought it should go on.   But then I saw photos of the devastation and what people have endured and I then think it was the right decision to call it off.  There will always be next year.

What do you think?

i am still trying to figure out who the pretty TV weather woman was?

They were going to use to heat the runners pre race tents was enough said for me.

They mayor would have taken a huge political hit had they run the marathon.  I get that he wanted to show the heart of New Yorkers, but once you put public employees (poice and fire) on the marathon route and not helping our Sandy victims, you have your priorities mixed up.

I ran in that race 30 years and 30 pounds ago, and a big part of what makes the race great is the crowd cheering you when you come across the 59th Street bridge into Manhattan. This year so many people opposed the running that I think the runners would have heard boos along the route.

And there is so much police and city government support required to hold that race that I was incredulous when the Mayor kept saying holding the race would not impact the support needed in Staten Island.

A rare major miscalculation for Mr. Bloomberg.
