It was just announced that legendary UCLA basketball coach John Wooden died today at the age of 99.

He did sooo much for Basketball, not just college.

his 'Pyramid of Success' and other philosophies are without peer and his books are bibles on competition and working together. He espoused that if you've done your best, you're a winner. One of his best, IMHO, was 'If you fail to prepare, you can prepare to fail.'-a great tenet for athletic competition and life. He is an idol of mine and a super class act I'll miss greatly. 1rob

while that may be inevitably what will happen, as it will to all of us...... he is currently listed in grave condition, but he is alive.  It appears that the Washington Post was a little too quick to pull the trigger on that.  He will be 100 in October, truly a legend and great basketball mind.

It is now being said he is alive but gravely ill and has not eaten in days....typical signs of the last stages of life.

Bottom line is that it doesn't look good.

Actually, he's not dead.

"No one related to the 99-year-old coach, who has battled various health problems in recent years and had recently reported to be in very poor condition, has confirmed the Post's story. UCLA told FanHouse Thursday evening that "reports of his death are erroneous" and that the school would not make any further comments out of respect for Wooden's family."

Thanks for the heads up in regards to his condition Misty. I had to watch both of my parents in that state and it's a difficult time for his family and friends...not to mention all of us who think the world of him.
