If you look at the statistics to date, the Yankees have better numbers than the Red Sox. Mark Texiera, Robinso Cano, Alex Rodriguez and Curtis Granderson are having great statistical seasons. I have not been impressed so far with the Red Sox's two major off season acquistions, Carl Crawford (only 5 homers) and Adrian Gonzalez (11 Homers). Conversely, Bartolo Colon has been stellar for the Yankees and is a candidate at this point to take home comeback player of the year.

Okay Boston Red Sox Fans, are you ready for a tough series at Yankee Stadium?
Today, Monday June 6, the Yankees are in first place with a record of 33-24 which is slightly better than Boston's 33-26 record. As we look at the upcoming pitching match-ups, Boston is starting Jonathan Lester, Clay Buckholtz and Josh Beckett while the Yankees are countering with AJ Burnett, Freddy Garcia and Ivan Nova. So on paper the Red Sox have a distinct advantage in starting pitching and if they do not win 2 of 3 games in this series it would be hugely disappointing. As I have told many Boston Red Sox fans over the years, Yankee Stadium is a very tough enviornment. The fans are extremely passionate about their Yankees and sometimes they take their fandom to extreme (just ask Cliff Lee's wife and the mistreatment she received at the stadium).
Speaking of Cliff Lee, he is just not having the type of CY Young Season the Phillies expected when they signed him to a substantial off season contract. Right now, more than a quarter of the way into the season, Lee has been slightly disappointing. I think if it gets down to a postseason series of the Phillies against the Giants, the Giants, behind their one two punch of Tim Lincecum and Matt Cain will best the vaunted Philly staff. This would certainly please one very loyal Giant Fan, Christor "Mad Dog" Russo, who is a radio host on Sirus.
Anyway, sorry for the digression. Back to the Boston Red Sox. I am not sure that beating Oakland is all that impressive as the A's have been struggling this year. Obviously, one distinct advantage the Yankees have is at closer, where Jonathan Papplebon can not match the pedigree and success of Mariano Rivera. One problem for Pappelbon is that at times, if things are not going well, he has been known to loose his cool on the mound. Contrary, one of the many assets of Rivera is his cool demeanor on the mound.
So while I wish the Red Sox and their passionate fan base good luck in the series, I believe the Yankees will easily handle business at the Stadium during the upcoming series.

Individual statistics don't mean tidily squat. Its a team effort and when the TEAM is 1 Win and 6 Losses against their divisional rivals they aren't going to be cashing in those statistic for rings any time soon.
