Reds reliever, Aroldis Chapman, threw fastest pitch ever recorded in MLB, against the Padres. In relief, he threw 25 pitches, and all were over 100 mph. His 105 mph pitch to Tony Gwin is the fastest ever radar recorded pitch. Gwin said after, that he never saw the ball until it was behind him. It was an inside pitch for a ball. Gwin then fouled out.

back in the day a few ptchers probably reached 105 or 105+. But it's an amazing feat. They tried to use Chapman as a reliever today. He wasn't throwing that fast or well when I saw him but it was at 100 or so. What did Nolan Ryan throw at, 100, 101. Use to watch him at Anehiem. Not sure they had acurate guns at that time.
I always remember that story about Nolan when the batter complained to the umpire about a called strike and the ump said, "Well, it sounded like a strike." LOL! I played in high school with a guy who made it to the majors and threw 96 mph when we were seniors. The ball actually made a hissing noise as it crossed the plate. He made it to the majors and gained a little bit of notariety while there. Chapman throws the ball so fast it might create a sonic boom!
