Sadly, in my experience, once they are in hospice care, they have very little time left, and the prognosis is hopeless.  Thus, it is time to reflect on the things they accomplished in life, and salute them.

In Smokin' Joe's case, I remember his victory over Muhammad Ali in '71, a few title defense victories afterward until Big George took away his title in early '73 with those devastating hay maker righthands , the Thriller in Manilla, and the fact that he was an ambassador for the sport after he retired.  While he may not have been the greatest Heavyweight, he was good enough to beat Muhammad Ali, and hold the reigns as Champ for a few years, and thus secure his legacy.

67-year-old legendary boxer Joe Frazier has been diagnosed with liver cancer. He is under hospice care. And from personal experience with hospice that usually means the person has 6 months or less.

He is a true legend. And I am not even a boxing fan but it is/was a great. Sadly this will be a fight he will not win.

One of the all time greats and a living legend!
A whole generation of great athletes/people (my large family) is aging/dying right before our eyes!
Know it's just nature, but it doesn't make it any easier to deal with/bear.

Mayweather-Ortiz fight-He was in a wheelchair then and looked bad per my friend-Joe is one of the all time greats of the sport and his fights with Ali were epic-My prayers are with him-

HBO has a great documentary on the Thrilla in Manila. It covers the three fights and it's loaded with smokin Joe interviews.  IMHO he's by far the better person.
