losing to Louisville and Memphis to close out the regular season, then losing the 1st game of the conference tournament. I know it's small consolation, but they're the #1 seed in the NIT. Maybe Larry Brown can add the NIT title to his NBA and NCAA trophies.
Hey, I happen to agree with you! I would rather see SMU in the NCAA's than a 12-loss Tennessee team. But the selection committee probably saw them hitting a rough patch at the wrong time.
I agree with you on SMU. They should have been in the tournament. But if you have watched the NCAA committee over the many years (and you obviously know college basketball very well), then you know they'll just manipulate the data to serve its purpose and justify their selections and seedings. Year after year, teams get left out who have the obvious resume (well obvious to all of us) to be in the tournament. Year after year we criticize the NCAA for seeding teams too low or too high. It becomes pointless because when you listen to the committee chairmen, they just spin the data (RPI ranking, quality wins over top opponents. strength of schedule etc) to confirm their selections.
But we all love March Madness no matter whose in the big dance! This tournament should be great as there is real no dominant team. You could make a legitimate case for at least 10 teams cutting down the nets. You have two four seeds (Michigan State and Louisville) who many people will predict will win the whole thing. You have a # 1 seed in the Shockers who many people don't think will even get to the Regional Semis. This year will be truly "maddening"!!
