He was no worse than borderline. He was all an star 4 times and had one SB win.
I think the problem for him is his contemporary QB's were just a bit better. Staubach, Griese and Bradshaw all had more all star appearances and won the SB at least twice, with Bradshaw winning 4. There is more to it than just those stats, to be sure, so I don't think its a no brainier he is outside looking in. I think I would vote for him, as I think he was in the same class as those other 3, but it is a close call.
Raider Nation is in morning....The Snake always had a way of pulling games out of the hat, and of course George Blanda helped. I loved his wild, whiskey drinking party style. Him and the Tuz, "cruise with the Tuz, you'll gonna get bruised"....Those were the REAL raiders. RIP, SNAKE
Never forget Stabler taking them the length of the field against the two time defending champs. And that catch by Clarence Davis is one of the all time best.
All those incredible battles with the Steelers too. So many hall of farmers on the field when those two teams played.
and prior to that as a kid growing up in the East Bay, Stabler had always been a hero to me. Too many games, and too many plays to possibly mentions, but throwing three TD while still drunk from the night before definitely made him my all time hero. The only QB that even comes close in my personal book is of course Joe Montana, but then again I never got drunk with Joe.

points well taken, that's along the lines of what I think....just figured that he would've got in eventually. The afore-mentioned playoff clash with Miami in '74 (the "sea of hands" game) was truly a game for the ages and showed "The Snake's" true warrior spirit and resolve....the playoff game with Baltimore in '77 (won in double OT) was another classic..
