In a year that many though would be his last (myself included), the guy leaves San Diego (partly his fault, but still not how SD should have let him go considering he is one of the few long term Padres stars they have ever had over the years) and goes and has a great year in Milwaukee, posting his best ERA outside of the World Series year of 1998, and arguably has a better year than his replacement, Heath Bell (although Heath's stats were hurt more by about 5-6 late season performances, and who could blame him for losing steam with where the Madres have been this year).

While being a closer isn't the most athletically demanding job in the world, you gotta hand it to Hoffy for proving many wrong.  Maybe he is just determined to not let Mariano Rivera catch him (be nice, CYNIC! ;), but you still have to tip your cap to the guy.

Thanks for all those years, Trev.  San Diego will never be the same without "Hells Bells" opening the ninth for Trevor Time.

ever passes him, it will certainly be quite an accomplishment given all that Hoffman has done.

MR is a class act as well.  He will probably break Hoffy's record, and deservedly so...he is a great pitcher.  I just root for him not to because 1) we in SD have so few major league records, and 2) getting that many saves with the Madres was a hell of a lot harder than getting that many saves with the Yankers, who probably have twice as many wins in the same time frame as the Madres do.

Kevin Tower will not be back next year. Now your
new owner, Jeff Moorad, can really blow up the team. Good luck MSD,

I guess they could trade Adrian Gonzalez or Bell.

It's our own fault, though.  SD has never been a good baseball town.
