Nastese, Author Ashe, John McEnroe et al, all would have beaten him. Federer has the advantage of playing with medicore competition and a TECchnologicAL evolution in the equipment. Tennis is so boring now, I am surprised anybody watches it.

The test of greatness is winning the four grand slam title on different surface...only 6 players did that...

Nastase, Ashe, McEnroe and even Bjorn Borg or Jimmy Connors never won all 4 titles in the different surface...

That's is the standard to measure how great Federer is...

Nadal is not a mediocre competitors...those two are way to better than the rest...

Borg and McEnroe had their racked that were better than the one use by Rod Laver, so Nadal and Federer racket are better than those used by Borg and McEnroe: still Federed won all 4 titles in different surfaces, the other great champion of the 70s did not...

Federer is a complete players: by winning the Roland Garros he demonstrated that he is one of the great player of all time...

If in more than 100 years only 6 player were able to win in all 4 surfaces that it tell you how great one has to be to accomplish that...

have a quality Federer will never have: they had panache, passion and persistence. Today's tennis players are about exciting to watch as observing paint dry.

If a wacko would have interfered with McEnroe while serving, he would have been decked. Ashe had more character than all of today's players.

Jimbo and McEnroe were the two most fun player to watch...and yes they had a character and personality that is matchless...

Ashe was a great player who career was shortned and his struggle against racial discrimination went beyond the court...

Ilie Nastase was the most craziest guys who played tennis...great showman and unbelievable finisher of point...

Federer has a not the pure talent of McEnroe nor the personality in and outside the court of Jimbo...

But: he is a more complete player of all: and he has great human quality; his perseverance after the debacle of last year and the loss at Wimbledon has been remarkable...and he is a gentleman, with great style in and out of the court.

What he has been able to accomplish so far cannot be only the result of talent; you need a lot more to play at such incredible high level for all this years and facing the most brutal red court player of all time...Rafa Nadal. You need great qualities to stay at the top for so many years and doing what the great player of the past weren't able to accomplish...

That's what really measure the stature of Federer as tennis player and human being

because he won all 4 grand slam titles and at that time the green was really hard to play that Wimbledon today and the US open was also play in mix of green that it was pretty hard to handle...

It well know that Federer took Laver as his model for playing...and you can see from his style...

I would rate Borg higher than Federer.
