The Red Sox and Dodgers are reportedly close to a huge deal that will send Josh Beckett, Carl Crawford, Adrian Gonzalez and Nick Punto to the Dodgers for James Loney, Ivan DeJesus and 3 others, including 2 top prospects. The deal also relieves Boston of $261M of current and future contract obligations for Beckett, Crawford and Gonzales. The new L.A. ownership has shown that they have no problem spending money, and feel that this deal can get them past the Giants. This will be 3 years in a row with no playoffs in Boston, and the current edition wasn't doing it. Now Bobby V. will have some new players to insult.

I am a life-long Yankees fan, but find the Boston situation sad.  The Yankees-Red Sox rivalry has been fun to watch, even when it did not turn out as I wished, e.g. 2004.   The implosion of the Sox in the past year means the rivalry is currently dead.  Now the Sox have to not only find a new manager, but also replace a big chunk of the lineup.

one who has been disgusted with mediocre results and half ass play by many overpaid prima donnas since 88, I was happy to see them get Gonzalez-Crawford is another story, however. He was great here in Tampa, but has been a pathetic bust for the Red Sox. The Dodgers have responsibility for over 100 mill for Crawford and unless he can stay off the IR and return to his former form, the Boys in Blue got took by Beantown   1rob....Yankees and Giants suck!  eternally.....smile.....out    8-)

it looks like they just took a page out of the Astro's playbook by gutting their team.

and for me. AG hit a three run dinger in his very first at bat wearing Dodger Blue. and the Dodgers went on to cruise against the Marlins, capping off a great day of baseball for me.

In contrast the Bo Sox blew a 9-3  lead against the lowly Royals and look to continue their tailspin, currently seven games below .500 bs and sinking like a stone.

As a recovered Red Sox fan, I can be objective. One of the highest payrolls in the game and sinking below sea level = gut the team and start over. The challenge is to see what they do with it, to see if they rebuild with intelligence, or just start stockpiling another group of high priced stiffs with attitudes.

I'm not sure if taking the red-sux rejects is a good idea. and it is costing them bug bucks too.

I hope it works out for them.

Thank you

This whole trade I have no interest in except for the pitcher Josh Beckett. He is one of the most self centered cry babies around. If he isnt the center of attention, his effort lacks. For some reason his "stuff" wasnt or hasnt been on most of the year. Now suddenly, after one appearance after the trade, he can find the strike zone without walking a few batters each outing. I think he was tanking in Boston and that was his way to get out!  No I am not a Boston nor LA fan!   Go Brewers

was played in Colorado, right?  Colorado is the worst ball park for any pitcher due to its high elevation.

but I will concede BP's point, Beckett got pounded.

and here it is a week later, and I am off the Dodger band wagon. although they are still winning, they aren't playing like the powerhouse you would expect right now. They are going to have a hard time simply making the playoffs, much less winning it all.

As for Boston, still sinking like a stone, and I love it.
