How should Serena Williams be punished?

I heard that she will get a $10K fine for her actions.  Seems pretty light to me. I thought a substancially larger fine and some sort of suspension was appropriate.  Any thoughts?

ass out of herself, and it's out there for all to see.

She should be suspended for a few months and not allowed to play in women's double championship match tommorrow.
She's like summer school, no class!

at a minimum she should be suspended from the doubles final.  Problem is I dont think anyone in charge has any balls. (and  I don't mean the fuzzy yellow ones)

According to what I just read, 10 grand is the maximum they can fine her the way things are set up and they also fined her $500 for breaking her racket between sets one and two. There's also a possiblity that she won't get her $350,000 for getting to the semi's and she may get suspended for a few Grand Slam events.

but if that is up to me, here is what she will get :
1.Make her play a whole match with a tennis ball stuffed in her mouth.
2. Force her to be a ball girl on tommorrow Men's single final.
3. Let John Mac verbally abuse her if she made a mistake playing future matches.
Lastly, she needs to supply flowers to Artur Ashe grave every time she plays professionally.

woman to win the tournament. Not too bad for being out of tennis for two years.

That is basically what I heard. Also she approached the lines person in a threatening manner which scared the crap out of the lady. How can you treat an official like that and not be severely disciplined. The WTA should definitely send a message that her speech and behavior will not be tolerated.

$10000. is a joke. She spends that on a single online shopping session.

Suspension is appropriate.
Also an apology.

Jehovah's Witnesses "not pleased"!

She might lose some endorsements because of this fiasco. It's hard to keep your temper under control when you are wronged in competative sports. But tennis is held to a higher standard than other sports. You it's bad when John McEnroe thinks you've gone too far.

I would agree and I wouldn't be surprised if she was summoned to Nike HQ in the very near future since she's decked out from head to toe in their products in every match.

No, it not hard to hold your temper and maintain your self-control. As I posted earlier, bad calls happen all the time in every sport. That's not the first time a call has gone against her, and it won't be the last. The lady that made the call is human and prone to mistakes like everyone. I heard that the U.S. Open doesn't use instant replay for foot faults. Maybe they should start.

The difference in prize money is quite substantial, even without the bonuses.

Champion - $1,200,000
Runner up - $600,000
Semi-finalist - $280,000

Serena would of probably lost the match even without the bad call. But in her mind, it didn't help. If I felt someone made a mistake that would potentially cost me $320,000, I would lose my temper.

At least:
$1 million fine-
Cannot compete in the U.S. Open next year at all-
Sincere public apology to the lady she screamed at-
A corporate boycott of letting her endorse anything-

Her fine may well be increased, but not to that extent.  But other than possibly losing some endorsements, that will probably be it.  But Serena has already lost a ton of respect, and down the road that will hurt her significantly.
