CHICAGO (AP) — Former Chicago Bears quarterback Jim McMahon, who is suffering from early-stage dementia...the 53 year old McMahon says he knows where he's going when in an airport. But when he meets people, "I'm asking two minutes later, 'Who was that?'
"When my friends call and leave me a message ... I'll read it and delete it before I respond and then I forget who called and left me a message," he added.

Knowing what he now does about the effects of the punishment he received in his 14-year NFL career, McMahon said, he would have chosen a different career.

McMahon said he realizes fans believe the lawsuit is motivated by greed, but he said many players didn't make a lot of money in the 1980s.

Although he has been a pot smoker and heavy drinker for most of his life, I am sure that did not help! .

read his book. one of the best stories is when they played the 49ers out in SF. the Bears won and then the long flight home. jimmy mack was driving home and saw Ditka getting a DUI on the side of the HWY. he drove by yelling out cat calls and he said he could see the pissed look on Ditka's face .

another good one was from the Superbowl. He found out Bob Hope was staying at the same hotel so took his center Jay Hilgenberg  to BHs room in the middle of the night wearing only their drawers. He banged on the door and a half asleep BH opened it. JM said hey Bob i wanted you to meet my best friend hilgy.

oh, and his first meeting with papa bear is a classic.

   

his book would be a great read.. I think it is sad about his condition, he was a great athlete in his hey day.
