Epstein to Cubs?

ESPN is reporting the Red Sox General Manager Theo Epstein is close to joining the Cubs in a role that will be at least one position higher than the one he presently holds. The two teams are working out compensation since Epstein still has a year left on his contract with Boston. He helped take the Sox from lovable losers to hateable winners, maybe he can do the same thing with the Cubbies.

After the negotiation are over, may you have to take all of his bad decisions, The Red Sox organization will cheer his departure.

Please explain why this would be the case?

More misses than hits recently.  Third place in the East with the second highest payroll in baseball, two years running.

For a man who took on one of the most high profile GM jobs in baseball (starting under the age of 30) and helping shape TWO WORLD SERIES winners (for a franchise that hadn't won since 1918), it would be completely unfair to say anything other than Epstein did a GREAT job in Boston.

Every GM makes bad decisions...even one's with seemingly unlimited resources like Cashman and  Epstein.. But Theo helped bring the Red Sox from clear second child status to the Yankees, to every bit the Bombers equal. In fact, many people today look at the Red Sox as the preminent franchise in the game and marvel at their recent success. I would argue that Theo Epstein has a lot to do with that.

Now the time be right for a GM change in Boston. But Red Sox fans should only hope that the next 8 years are anything like the previous 8 years.

As for going to the Cubs, it would be a great move for Epstein. Imagine if he helped the Cubs win their first world series title since 1908? Wow, that would be legendary.

Speaking as a Yankee fan, I have to agree with you.  I would love to see Epstein go to the Cubs and help them win a World Series.  Imagine being the guy who did it for both the Sox and the Cubs.

theo to the cubs great move, won 2 world series in boston, he saw there wasnt much else he could do in boston, player movement wise, most contracts cannot be moved, will be interesting if he hires francona

under his watch?    Helluva job, I'd say-the Cubs have sucked for decades with occasional shots at making the big show  (in 69 and then poor Bartman)-with management obviously not making the commitment to winning it all-maybe this time they are-If the sad assed Cubbies can win it, Epstein should make the Hall of Fame-Always loved their announcers-esp. Brickhouse and Harry Carey-1rob....OUT
