I use to love to watch the roller derby on TV
when I was a kid. Being a kid it was like seeing
human giants the derby people were all very tall.
What ever happened to this sport? The guys would
roller blade then the women. The women roller derby
was awesome . I wish there was somewhere to see
a live game...

That scene towards the end where the roller punk comes after them in the train station.

Cool video with Scenes from the movie to "We Die Young" by Alice in Chains.

L.A.  The announcer was Dick "Whoa Nelly" Lane who used to announce wrestling as well.

The T-Birds were the home team - they were always the home team!  They never went on the road.

The stars were Little Ralphie Valladeres and Danny Reilly.

They played teams such as the Detroit Devils and the Texas Outlaws with a bad-ass skater named Shirley Hardman.

Every few years someone tries to organize Roller Derby again. There might be something happening now for women only.  I see it on the news every once in a while.

If I remember correctly they played right across the street from old Kezar Stadium in San Francisco. I think the crowds were more violent than the players. They were a bloodthirsty bunch. lol

That would be Kezar Pavilion and the Bay Bombers returned there for the 2007 season.

It's been 40 years, my memory is a bit fuzzy.

Tough sport, even though much of it is along the lines of pro wrestling I still remember the resounding thuds when a skater would go over the rail. It had to hurt.

Woman's Flat Track Derby Association.  There's actually quite a few teams around the country. Take a look:

The names of the skaters are wonderful.  An upcoming match in NC includes Deviled Legs, Kelly Clocks'em, Kama Suture, Luv Agreshun, and Celia Fate.  Unfortunately, Harlot O'Scara has retired.

in Orlando.
Big guy funny sense of humor with not a lot of teeth he assured me the action in Roller Derby was real (of which I had no doubt)!

He said he later became a professional musician playing some 13 instruments and had lived in my city.
