I didn't watch the game, but I saw replays of Sebastian Janikowski's 63-yard field goal just as time ran out in the first half last night. He tied the record held by Tom Dempsey of New Orleans and Jason Elam of Denver. Old Thunderfoot has also kicked field goals from 61, 57, and 56 yards. He attempted one from 64 yards, but it hit the crossbar and bounced back onto the field.
vs. the Lions--Dempsey only had half a right foot and had a special shoe to kick with-the previous record was 56 yards---Later, the NFL passed a rule saying kicks must be made with a normal shoe-those at the game said it sounded like an explosion when Dempsey struck the ball-I recall Alex Karras of the Lions, who was a great player and a dang good announcer on Monday Night Football for a while was in total shock and disbelief when it went through-he was not alone-Dempsey was a straight on kicker as well and didn't do it soccer style-there was a 65 yarder made in preseason by some obscure fellow, which didn't count-Roll Tide, Buddy, and I'll be looking forward to some scruffy Tiggers and their fans getting some comeuppance and payback later this year from the boys in Crimson---1rob....Chidzik has had a horseshoe up his butt in the first 2 games.........out 8-)
yeah he had a club foot that all the kicking shoes replicated, but damn it was an older style ball, which like his uniform equipment, wasn't state of the art and he was kicking off of natural grass. And the biggest factor of all is he wasn't in the thin, mile high, air of Denver.
