Remember Jeter showing him up next time he is behind home plate. Probably has already told Jeter he'll remember he fooled him on that one...

I used to be able to say that there was ONE  NYY that I could give props to.

It was Jeter.

It was...One Yankee under God,......  Jeter

Of course he had cheating modeled for him.....so naturally he smiles and says he does whatever it takes to win a ballgame. I'm tired of the trend Major League baseball has set for the record books.
How about going back to the record books for MVP, Cy Young, Home Run Hero, and erase the cheaters name and leave the damn entry blank. Give back the credibility to Major League Baseball so guys like Hank Arron can feel like his record was beaten because of hard work and not cheating.

The whole game of baseball is predicated on cheating/stealing and has been since the game was invented.
One team tries to steal the other team's signs...a runner tries to steal a base...hitters erase the batter's box in order to see the pitch coming at them for just a bit longer...pitchers scuff the ball to make it move more. These kinds of things are going on every game.
I hate the Yankees more than anyone but I have no problem with what Jeter did. His job was to get on base and he was awarded that base by an incompetent umpire. Only in golf do the athletes call penalties on themselves. Don't expect major leaguers to start acting righteously now.

Jeter is hitting somewhere in the .260s. I know his job is to get on base but if he does have to resort to this kind of chicanery to do the job then his skills are really in decline.

This kinda stuff (and worse) has been going on since the game of baseball was invented. See the enclosed article. Cheating goes on in EVERY sport to a certain extent. As the old saying goes "If you ain't cheating, you ain't trying."

Listen, I have always hated the Yankees, their arrogance, their buying their way to the top, them getting the calls when they need them.  But I can't fault Jeter for this.  In fact, take a look at these remarks from the Rays manager, Joe Maddon, as quoted by ESPN.  (at the bottom)

Of course, Maddon and the Rays have shown themselves to be a classy organization lately and I would have been surprised if he or they had made a big deal of this.  But (and I really hate to admit this) this latest incarnation of the Yankees is actually a very classy bunch.  I can't help but admire Jeter from what I know of him.  I recently saw him at a Rays game and he was a friendly and warm with the fans as he was with his teammates during pre-game warm-ups.  Even during the game he seemed to be having a good time even though his night didn't go so well.

Rivera, Petite, and Posada all seem to be stand-up guys.  I'd probably want them as my teammates.  Even Girardi handles himself well.

Even so ... DAMN YANKEES!!!

---------------------------------
The Yankees went back on the top in seventh after plate umpire Lance Barksdale -- over the objections of the Rays -- ruled that Qualls' first pitch struck Derek Jeter on the left arm and Granderson followed with his 18th homer.

Maddon argued unsuccessfully that the ball hit Jeter's bat, eventually drawing an ejection from Barksdale.

Jeter, who stood doubled over while receiving attention from a trainer, confessed that the ball hit the end of his bat and he sold the call to Barksdale with a good acting job.

"He told me to go to first base. I'm not going to tell him I'm not going to first, you know," Jeter said.

"It's part of the game. My job is to get on base. Fortunately for us it paid off at the time, but I'm sure it would have been a bigger story if we would have won that game."

Maddon disliked the call, but didn't fault Jeter.

"If our guys had did it, I would have applauded that. It's a great peformance on his part," the Tampa Bay manager said. "Several players are very good at that. And again, I'm not denigrating it. If our guy does it, I'm very happy with that if we end up getting the call. ... Fortunately it didn't cost us."

I agree. Can you imagine Clemente, Mays, Aaron, Ruth or even Ripken going on the disabled list due to a strained calf muscle? These guys get a hang-nail and they go in for physical therapy! LOL!

It's a different game now bro. It's not like it was years ago when men were men and not cheaters. It's a sissy's game now and a liars game too. The Babe must be rolling over in his grave!

The Umpire(s) fucked up AGAIN....what's new rthere ?

True Jeter did a bit of acting, and as far as I know there are no rules against acting.

Thank you

Not only is the umpire incompetent for missing the call but stupid too for believing the acting.

BTW where were the other umpires, they are suppose to be paying attention also.

Thank you

keying on the thing they are suppose to be keying on. The plate ump view was blocked. Cut some slack here. He couldn't tell if ball hit Jetter then the bat or bat first. I doubt if someone 60' away whould have a better view. In my mind it's one of the things that make baseball a great game. Few things in the game have changed. Designated hitter for pitchers, but the game is relative pure from yesterday.

Besides, how are they going to be the "Damn Yankees" without a little of this now and again. Being a Dodgers fan myself I would hate to go back to "The N.Y. Yankees" I want the Damn Yankees to be just what they are, win at any cost. And don't change the fans either, rude, obnoxious, overbearing and unforgiving.

Hell that's why it's so fun to beat them.
