Please, this is not meant to be inflammatory and is an honest question; why do you like watching races such as the Indy 500?
I'm a motorsport fan myself (F1 and some MotoGP primarily), but I can't wrap my head around watching what seems like too many cars on too narrow a track with concrete walls just turning left repeatedly. It seems to me like the only appeal that there could possibly be is the inevitable pile up caused by there being just an absurd number of cars on the track at a given point, which is not something that appeals to me at all. I'm honestly just trying to see a different perspective here.
Far be it from me to denigrate a sport you like too, it's really not my intention - people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones, and I will voluntarily watch every second of a 5 day cricket match. My house is the most brittle, thin glass ever.
