I can't believe they actually cheered for a caddie walking up the last hole. A caddie who is a complete asshole and the most fan-unfriendly caddie in the history of the game. A caddie who actually got interviewed after the round and just about believed HE won the tournament. AdaM Scott hit all the shots and made all the putts. Adam Scott won the tournament. His blowhard caddie Steve Williams ought to shut up because he talks waaaaay too much.
They were not cheering for Steve Williams, they were cheering for Adam Scott. The camera just happened to pan on Williams during the ovation.
As for calling him a complete a-hole, that is what a good caddy does. It is their job to keep the fans in check while their playing is hitting, and Williams was the best at that. Ask any real golf fan, or most professional golfers, and they will tell you that Steve Williams is one of the best caddies out there, ever.
The only reason that we even heard his comments was because of the media trying to stir up shit (that is pretty much their sole purpose). They put a camera in his face and provoked him (yes, they edit those parts out). Most players won't even let their caddy talk to the media, a fact that Adam Scott will soon learn.
Granted, Williams is a bit of a hot head. Kind of reminds you of a famous golfer that he used to work for. But let's put the blame where it belongs here..on the media. They are making WAY too much of this break up.
Not sure what you were watching but the crowd was calling out Stevie's name the last few holes that I watched. Not one time did I hear Adam's name called out but I heard Stevie's several times. It makes no sense to me that CBS would interview him since they kiss Tiger's ass most of the time. THey knew he would take a shot at Tiger so it made for good TV.
Show up, Keep up and Shut up. That what really good caddies do. They earn big money and can be the difference between a win or also ran. However, they don't swing the club or roll the putt. Steve Williams is a hero today, one bad call and he can cost Scott a lot more than he won Sunday.
