In addition to Sabathia's big old groin being strained (see thread below), Andy Pettitte took a line drive on the leg today, suffering a broken ankle. He'll be out about 6 weeks. Pettitte is not longer the ace of the staff, but he ate innings and gave them another experienced starter. Looks like it's up to Phil Hughes now.

It is a shame to see Pettitte go down; he is such a class guy and so strong in the clutch. Sabathia is an amazing pitcher and the Ace of the staff-- Pettitte not so much. He was average during the regular season, but among the best all time for post season. Maybe the Yanks will slow down a bit now. Depth is always important  to a 162 game season.

I think because the all-star break is right around the corner C. C. will only miss two starts.

Andy on the other hand, it is reported, will be out a minimum of 6 weeks.

Despite what the little boy in the peanut gallery here thinks I’m confident the YANKEES will step up and get it done.

The Yanks do come through and get tougher as the game wears on. They most always get to the starter in the 7th, 8th inning. Pitching is their weakest link. Offense is the best in both leagues, defense very solid and experienced as they know when to throw and when to put a ball in their pocket, but pitching is spotty. We all know that pitching is most important. Hence, the Yanks could have some trouble in post season as they have in past seasons.

Those hamstring injuries are nuisances that haunt a player all season.  All Star break will benefit the Yanks.

Now is the time to see if any of the kids from the minors are ready to step up.  They've been resilient thus far, as the loss of Mo for the season hasn't stopped them from charging into the AL East lead, and putting some daylight between the teams behind them.  I think we'll be fine...
