is especially sad. For a sports loving kid; growing up in the 1970's were the best, you had Frazier, Ali, Foreman, in football, the steelers mean joe greene, the cowboys, Lee roy Jordan, Staubach, the raiders and Ken stabler; Baseball - the A's, Vida Blue, Pete Rose et al; motor sports - Andretti, Aj Foyt, Richard Petty; Basketball, UCLA and John Wooden, Bill Walton, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Dr J. Even Tennis with bILLY jEAN kING, McEnroe, Connors, was interesting back then, even Golf with Jack Nickulus, Trevino. Has there ever been a greater 10-year period in sports than 1968-1978? I left out many names such as the 1968 OLympics, the greatest Olympics of them all with Beamon, and the whole track and field team then how could I miss MArk Spitz in 1972. WOW! God Bless Joe. I will miss him.

A great athlete.  An even greater warrior.

if you get a chance try and check out the HBO documentary Thrilla in Manilla. It's great and you see just how good of guy Joe Frazier was.

RIP JOE !

Whether the subject is sports, music or movies, everything is cyclical and there are some clearly identifiable golden eras in each one.

I think you're right that the late 60's going into the 70's was one of those special times.
