After a terrible start, the Red Sox have put together a superior season - second best record in the majors, leading the toughest division. I only bother writing because wherever you go, even the sox MLB site, all you read are sox fans bitchy posts. Typical.
Gonzalez, Ellsbury, Pedroia, Ortiz, Beckett, Lester, and Papelbon all having strong to monster seasons, with Ellsbury finally proving he can do it, and Beckett, Pap, and Ortiz making huge comebacks.
Youk's numbers are down but solid, will probably drive in close to a hundreds runs. Scutaro, Lowrie, and Saltalamacchia are solid within their capabilities. Reddick has been a nice bonus.
The guys who are not hitting, Drew and Varitek - well, we don't exactly count on them for offense anyway, do we? And the big one, Carl Crawford has been coming around, getting better each month, and since Ellsbury and Pedroia have easily covered for him at the top of the order, no problem.
Wakefield does what he can do, Bucholz was looking promising but the injuries took him away - looks like Bedard will cover for him nicely - and Lackey, not having a good year, is still leading the team in wins. That's a good sign.
In the middle, Bard, Aceves, and Albers have been all that was promised and more. Biggest disappointments on the pitching staff, probably Jenks. Can't call Dice K a disappointment, since nobody expected anything from him. Wheeler and Morales, so-so I guess.
What's my point? I don't have one really, but I do see a sox-phillies series in the near future.
