I understand the playoff system, well sort of, in a simple way.  Each Division winner makes the playoffs and in case of a tie in the Division the team with a handle on the other team they tie wins. That is, if Chiefs tie with the Chargers and the Chiefs beat the Charges twice in regular season they make the playoffs, I think. What happens if they split?

And how is the wildcards picked. Is it two from the NFC and 2 from the AFC.

Now before you jump all over me for being a novice is this most specific and hidden art of NFL lore keep in mind one thing.

I'm a Chiefs fan and have only been faced with the task of determine the playoffs chances once or twice in my life time. And both times have been years apart.

So mostly I sat back and enjoyed the playoffs and Super Bowl without a dog in the hunt. Which on second thought may occur this year as well.
