Pending league approval, Doc Rivers will become the new coach of the L.A. Clippers. Boston agreed to release him from the final 3 years of his contract in exchange for an unprotected 1st round draft choice in 2015. Rivers will get the same deal from the Clips (3-years, $21M) that he had remaining on his Boston deal. Guess the Celtics are going into a major rebuilding mode. No word yet on what will happen with Pierce and Garnett.

The rebuild is on

This trade is a head-scratcher for the Nets. They just got a lot older, as Garnett is 37 and Pierce and Terry are 35 each. This means their window for a title is 2 years, at best. I can't see where this trade makes them higher than the 3rd or 4th best team in the East. Add a rookie head coach who's only 3 years older than Garnett and the 2014 season should be an interesting one for Brooklyn.

But also for Boston.  Will they continue to trade away pieces and head for the lottery?
