the Phillies were 3.5 games behind the Mets, who then chocked allowing Philadelphia to host a World series. Now the Phillies are a mere 5 games up on the Marlins (with six face to face games scheduled) and the Phils are doing a great imitation of a choke. One World Series here was happy surprise, it is starting to look like a second would be a miracle. It is starting to feel like a Cards/Yanks series with me wondering if the Phillies will even make the play offs.
I would like to see the Cards/Yanks also, even though a Dodgers/Yanks series would be the most intriguing, with Torre and Ramirez going back to New York. The Phillies have major bullpen problems. Lidge hasn't been right all year, and Madsden blew the game yesterday. Cliff Lee gave them a spark in his first 5 starts, now he's settled back down to earth. I think the Phils will win the East, but that's about as far as they'll go.
I like the sounds of a Cards/yanks..remember a year ago the Cards' closer (Izzy)had 25 or so blown saves....If our bullpen was like it is today....we could have been a factor in October.
