I am trying to get all my Bowls straight....and man wtf is going on here?
If seems as if all the colleges that would have never made it to a Bowl are now just running out finding sponsors...LIKE HEY WE CAN'T REALLY PLAY SO FUCK THE REST OF THE WORLD WE WILL MAKE OUR OWN SAND BOX!!
On the other hand if you have $$$$$$ and a big ego, I am sure The Allure Bowl or Minnetonka One Bowl will sound very appealing to several teams with the exception of Notre Dame.
However problems are already beginning to sprout with all the Bowl games. Quite a few don't have television broadcast contracts and some are not even broadcast locally. Many are also far from sold out with the exception of BCS games.
You require six wins and .500 or better record to qualify for a bowl game. Traditionally only 11 games were scheduled per team. Now many teams have added a 12th game usually against some division 1A or 1AA patsy (inferior opponent on paper unless you are Michigan scheduling Appalachian State)to ensure they qualify for a bowl game. The inferior opponent is usually paid off to show up and rollover for the home fans.
When you have teams like MN "qualifying" for a bowl game with a below .500 in conference record, you know what a farce college football has become unless you are a bettor / gambler.
I say it should require 6 wins with an 11 game schedule or 7 wins with a 12 game schedule to qualify for a Bowl game. Also a .500 or better in-conference record would be required to qualify. Adopt these rules and the number of teams "qualifying" for a bowl game will drop in half.
Then along comes a team like SMU that hadn't played in a bowl in 25 years and had been in the toilet since forever after being the only school to receive the "death penalty" from the NCAA. they beat Nevada 45-10 last night in the Hawaii Bowl. Granted, it was against the nation's second-worst pass`defense, but it was still a fun game to watch.
say, about 10 bowls and no more. The Rose, Orange, Sugar, Fiesta, Cotton, Capital One, Gator and about 3 more, and that's it! That way maybe they'll mean something again.
Popped in my head last night....I was at the casino trying to get into the sports room to get my bowls straight....bc I want to go hang out on New Years and watch some games.....the casino security and I were standing there all confused like what the hell? Yeah the casino sports bars are HUGEEEEE and the TV screens are GINORMOUS....
But it would take 3 weeks to watch all the games....and I am not interested in all the teams....
I still don't understand why colleges don't have a play off....but oyyyyyyy I digress........
used to be one of my personal favorites....NOT! When they started to commercialize everything things have gone downhill fast. Need a playoff system....NOW!
How about the Bay Area's "Emerald Bowl"....it's played at PacBell / SBC / AT&T Park (or whatever the hell it's called now) and they GIVE away tickets! Yep...can't sell but 10K tickets so they give away the rest. Usually two 7-7 teams.
And while at it, darling, I'm fucking confused about the BCS! Somebody explain that mathematical formula to me!
it's probably not a formula at all. The standings, ratings and what-not are most likely put together by a little old lady in tennis shoes who lives in a retirment home in Boca Raton.
any case, it sucks no matter what you call it. To me, the AP Poll determines the National Champion, not that stupid game that the BCS puts on to determine it. Indeed, if Alabama-Texas is a stinker, and TCU soundly beats Boise State, then the AP should make TCU the #1 team.
