"Pleasure District" with adult-oriented entertainment.
A feature of many cities to keep all the vice in one place.
100 years ago, there was an RLD in every decent sized US city, and a there were even printed guides, called "Red Books"
Newly enfranchised women voters shut most of them down over the moral panic of "white slavery".
Some US cities (NYC, Chicago, Baltimore) kept the RLD's going even I came up in the late '70's.
They were dirty, dangerous, full of ROB's and Scams to separate horny young men from their money.
But, it's what we had.
Amsterdam had THREE world-famous Red Light Districts, a paradise of young, English speaking women wanting to make a few cash dollars. I first saw it in the mid-80's when Carly Fiorina sent me to the Netherlands. I thought that I had literally died and gone to heaven, especially after going to a "coffee shop" and not realizing how potent the offerings..
The Dutch are now demolishing their RLD's all over the country, due to the moral panic of human trafficking.
TIjuana also has an RLD called "The Zona". It, too had it's glory days in the 80's .. where fresh young talent arrived every week, with dream of making some money and leaving their rancho/pueblo.
TJ and AMS are still there, but a shadow of their former selves, probably never to return.
