Recently, I got a ticket for running a "red light".
In addition, the car that I was driving is registered in a different state, in which I still maintain my residence.
The 2 questions I have are as follows:
1) What's the best way to beat the "red light" violation?
2) I was asked to register my car here in California. I want to maintain my registration of my car for the out-of-California state - as the car is seldom used here. It's used in the other state.
I believe the only thing you can do is find out what days the officer has off, which is public record, and then reschedule the court day for one of those days. Most officers don't like to be in court on days they are not working.
If he shows then you will lose but if not the case should get dropped.

In the state of California, do you have to go twice to the Court for contesting your ticket? Once to file your plea, and then for the trial...
In Virginia, and some of the other states its one appearance - you make your plea, and the officer is right there. If he isn't the charges are dismissed.
You can claim you tried to stop, but could not do so safely.
I was once caught by a red light camera on an ice day. When I came to court I told the judge I started to break, but then the car skidded a little. Therefore to gain control of the vehicle I had to press on the gas, turn into the skid, therefore running the red.
He couldn't argue as I brought a weather report from that day reporting icy roads, and there were no witnesses other than myself and the camera.
