Queen: a different perspective

I'm talking about the band, of course.  :)

They are known for producing some great, original and interesting music with Bohemian Rhapsody being my fave.

My question:  how do you think Queen's music would be different if they were a "current" band around today?  I don't mean if the group from the past was around today but if they formed today.  Do you think their music would be different?  If so, how would it be different?

Peace...

I think their music was always just about five years ahead of it's time, and they were constantly adapting with the times (much like the Beatles in their time).  So I think they would flourish in today's market.

I'm not artistic enough to figure out how the music would be different, but I think the talent would prevail.

original Madison Square Garden, in Boston and then in LA - right before Freddie died.   No voice like him before or since.   Like DC said, I know they'd be still seen as trend leaders and would be big today.   They were "reborn" when the movie Waynes World came out.  My son fell in love with Bohemian Rhapsody - and to this day (he's 21 now) we laugh and do the "head banging thing."

My other favorite group, also with an unusual sound and way under appreciated (IMHO) is ELO.

Good post!

He was the driving force behind the band, was, and still is innovative enough to not only exist in today's music, but probably would still be setting a standard. For chrissakes, the guy has a doctorate in Astrophysics, and is absolutely brilliant. He's a hell of a lot more than a guitarist.

San Jose - I think it was April 5, 2006.   Brian did a 20 minute solo run-through of many Queen songs with Paul sitting next to him - probably 15 songs, some Bad Company, most Queen.     The highlight for me was Bohemian Rhapsody when they showed on a big screen, Freddie singing it while the band played.  Very cool.

CG

sounds like one hell of a show.
