It's quite busy here but we have our slow days as well. As long as you have stellar reviews, you'll attract tourist. There's always business men from out of town going to Moscone Center for conference meeting.
I can't speak to "The City" of San Francisco itself, but there are mostly nice areas down "The Peninsula" - cities such as Burlingame, San Mateo, Belmont, down to Palo Alto, Mountain View, and San Jose.
Oakland and some of the surrounding areas in the East Bay are a bit more worrisome (a bit more Tampa-like.)
BTW - lived in Tampa for a while some years ago ... you know Janna Jones? (She Hot! Bring her with you! -g-)
