Like some of your NY clients, there are likley to be some gentlement who'd like dinner dates or a night on the town with you. To truly experience the excitement of the city, you'd want to stay in the Union Square area downtown.
This certainly won't be convenient for some who have to drive in to city, but it'll be fine for most others. And a stay at the Palace Hotel or Monaco or some similar establishment on Nob Hill, would be really nice for you and your friends.
