I'm still figuring out how to get started. I posted ads in a few places that friends recommended posting to. I got a really threatening email response from my backpage ad.  

What do? Is this normal? I'm not going to reply, of course. I can't do much, I guess. This is the first internet threat I've gotten, so that's a first!

This "hobby" does have more than a fair share of unstable people.  Among hobbyists in the bay area, Backpage doesn't have the greatest reputation, lots of ripoffs and other unsavory types.

That's not to say there are some hidden gems out out there on Backpage, but some of the worst horror stories we hear are from guys that decide to look on Backpage.

the midwest ugh.  Please, stay away.  Do your research and just stay away.

Not all bp ladies are bad, but so many are so shady.  Some are new and just have no idea where to advertise.

Mind you I am speaking only from my personal experience as a provider.  Their references are generally unreliable as they tend to not screen and use only phone numbers.  

It's worth saving your money, if that is why you're looking there, and doing some research for quality.

Just my humble opinion from a provider who misses my Bay area gentlemen and the groovy providers who were always willing to give references, immensely

I make sure when I post there I add my Instagram link with my website attached. Sometimes even leaving my number off and making sure I direct to link for website for rates, location and contact information.
