I have one favorite with great Kobe Beef. ;)
I'm not a big red meat person. So, my knowledge is limited. I figured you manly men would know.
Your help is appreciated as always....Kisses, J. Loren

If you have a favorite with Kobe beef, why would you need suggestions on another place? Mortons and Ruth's Chris are always good.

I'll cook for you and your date and look the other way when someone's toe starts trailing up a shin.

(but I'm in L.A. - maybe Mr. Self Destruct will let me use his kitchen)

I used to work at a meat company for 12 years in town selling to restaurants like steakhouses.  Is there really a difference between Ruth's Chris, Morton's, Prime 10, Greystone, etc?  Hard to say.  Most of the time, what makes the difference at that level, or what makes people return, isn't just the steak.  They are all good (at those prices, they had fucking better be), and it is usually the atmosphere or service or clientele or location or whatever that makes you settle on one of them, not one or the other being better.

I have found that if I get decent beef, I can make a steak at home that is just as satisfying to me as something it would cost $40 to get at a restaurant.  Steak is steak, for the most part.  Don't overcook it, use some olive oil and garlic salt or a good sauce, and whoomp, there it is.

Also, Jai...I have a steak recipe that is just for you, hon...but you would need to cook it. :)

Great steak, nice decor, wonderful staff and right next to the action of the Gaslamp to work off that steak you just ate.  Do a little table dancing at Dick's and you are good to go!!

donovans on La jolla village drive. hands down. They dont need to put a slab of butter on top of their steaks to give them flavor..like one other top place does. Service, ambience...it's all good. Try the Portobello appetizer and the Creme Brulee is a must for desert.
As a side, the Turf Club is a great time if you want the interaction of cooking your own meat.

How about L&G's Steakhouse in the downtown area.  I think it's like at 6th and F.

LG's sucks--save your money. I am trying the new Palm Restaurant on Monday and will report back.

Butcher shop is my favorite, I like the old school atmosphere. Donovans in La Jolla is another one. As long as it's warm and pink in the middle it's all good.

there are some good ones. location and service might be the deciding factors. In north county, Donavan's, Ruth's Chris, are pretty good. For old steak room atmosphere and a good crowd, try Red Tractons in Del Mar.

any rewards for the best answer?

I vote for Fleming's in UTC or Ruth's Chris in Carmel Valley, Donovan's is ok but for the price you can do better. Never been to Morton's but I hear that place is great too.

You can go to a Morton's or Ruths Chris in 50 other cities....Donovans is the best, hands down. Good bread, great cajun lamb chop appetizer, excellent caesar salad, and very good NY strip.
