Did you hear the great news? According to an article I read in the SD Union-Tribune this past weekend, the Oceanside PD is going to start publishing the names of persons convicted on prostitution charges, both hookers and johns, in their local newspaper. The chief is intent on driving out this activity from its fair city by shaming those who engage in such nefarious conduct. Stings are occurring on a once or twice per week basis. The posting of names would probably be constitutional and not an invasion of a person's privacy rights because they are limiting it to persons who are convicted (or plead) to the charges, as opposed to just being arrested. There was also mention that the City of El Cajon is cracking down as well. Apparently, complaints by local business owners have spurred stings in that city, too. Impounding of vehicles was also mentioned in order for men to have to explain to their wives as to why the car is missing. Interesting, isn't it?
In the meantime, "other" more serious crime is ignored or goes unabated. Recently, my home was vandalized a couple of times and there was a good, solid lead on who did it based on an eyewitness account. The police did absolutely nothing. They wouldn't come out to investigate and refused to talk to the witness or suspect. Instead, they said it was a "civil" matter and I could take him to court. Great way "to protect and serve!" But, they seem to have enough resources and manpower to conduct stings on massage parlors and prostitution activity on a regular basis. And, they seem to be able to buy plenty of tape measures to enforce the no touching or 6' rule at strip clubs. In the meantime, gang violence, according to crime statistics and murder reports, is increasing with little public fanfare or police concern.
Thanks for letting me vent a little here!!!!
