Upcoming Mayoral Race

The discussion regarding the "chain of command" that triggers LE activity a long while ago here, proved to be inconclusive.

Regardless, no doubt that the choice of Mayor will have some impact on this issue.

If there are thoughts and suggestions about who would be the best candidate to vote for, with the best hope of  not curtailing personal freedom, this is a good juncture to hear the suggestions.

I personally believe screening, and other cautionary measures are not helpful if LE is bent on catching people.  The rational approach will be for us to take a look at the structure in place.

it would be hard to vote for Jerry Sanders, who is an ex-police chief.

I know JBIRDCA is going to rail on me for this, but I am behind Lady Donna all the way.

I don't live in the city, so the effects will be minimal on my city.

In thinking about it, I hope she does get elected, let the city go to hell. Just increases my property values.

Based upon all the political animosity lately, I think it's probably better that people learn the hard way.

I don't think it's going to matter who wins the election in San Diego, the sex trade is always a high profile target and a great diversion from the nonsense in City Hall. Look at all the hype surrounding the bribery scandal.

Didn't San Diego pretty much go to hell under a Dick Murphy, a Republican mayor? The Wall Street Journal didn't call San Diego "Enron by the Sea" because of its financial acumen. And wasn't the San Diego pension scandal launched under another Republican mayor, Susan Golding?

But I forgot, things will always be worse under a Democrat, like Donna Frye. Yeah, right!

You apparently don't know much about ow San Diego City Hall works, nor do you know much about Frye.

The city council shares the blame for the pension mess-the mayor has no real powers under the current city charter.

And Frye is a total obstructionist on the council, for good and bad. And she supports and is supported by unions.

San Diego did quite well under two former Republican mayors named Wilson and Hedgecock.

But like I said, lether get in and run things. She'll have a lot more control next year when the new strong mayor form kicks in, fees will go up astronomically and the city will be in bankruptcy.

But the liberals will be happy-you'll have your silly octopii sculptures and you can all boogey-board your way to financial hell. When the TOT goes up to 50% and the tourist trade dies, I say great. It'll thin out the workforce and make things more affordable-since property values will drop into the sewer.

JBird,
Define quite well under Wilson and Hedgecock.  It was under their administration that the chronic underfunding of necessitities and juggling money started.  Former City Manager McGrory continued the practice under Golding et al.  He balanced the budget by selling city property.

I'm fairly liberal, but greatly dislike the art in city buildings requirement.  There's a lot of things that this city need not spend money for that it does.  I do feel that the TOT should've been raised.  Look at the figures.  We have the highest occupancy rate in the country and the hightest average room rate.  People aren't going to stop coming here because they have to pay an additional $4/night. ($200 room 2% increase in tax)  Oddly, the Chamber of Commerce opposed the TOT tax stating exactly what you did.  They then proposed an increase on the taxi tax several months later.  How the hell are people going to get to the hotels?

I'll stop here, but I think your facts are either incorrect or skewed to match your political stance.

I should run. I think I'm very qualified:

1) Lived in:
  A) Serra Mesa (60's-70's)
  B) Point Loma (80's)
  C) Mission Valley (90's)
  D) University City - fake La Jolla (current)

2) Filed bankruptcy. Mostly due to failed marraige. Also due severe gambling problem (see: Pension Fund)

3) Been to Cheetah's numerous times. Sorta dated a couple of them. ATF there has been in Playboy. Can testify they knew when vice was enroute.

4) Managed a very succesfull business for years.

Whaddayathink? Vote right, vote Macknight?

Obstructionist? Hmm...well I guess you could say that since she is the only one on the council that voted against raiding the pension plan. I don't consider myself a liberal, but you have to ask yourself what is better: an honest liberal or a crooked conservative?

What J-Squab really means is don't "dare" voice an opinion that differs from his own rather narrow view of the world. Marco from San Diego.
