Off topic question to San Diego board, bad neighborhoods

I am looking to move out there and am coming out to check out the housing/apartment rental situation. Are there certain parts of the San Diego area that you would steer clear of if you were planning on moving there? Don't need to worry about sending kids to school or any of that stuff.  Just don't want to find out I've signed a lease to a place in a neighborhood full of homeboys until it's too late.

Thanks.

What is a homeboy...a boy who stays home?

Knew that, lol. It was just a very broad use of the term that could be taken as quite offensive.

being insulting to somebody asking a legitimate question
Tackiest...super lame home boy joke

You sort of have to go out of your way to find a ghetto in San Diego.  The neighborhoods that make up Southeast San Diego are pretty ghetto, but nowhere near as dangerous as other cities.  There are some parts of North Park and University that are poverty stricken, but still safe.

Welcome to San Diego!

Logan Heights, Encanto, City Heights, Skyline, Bay Terraces, Lincoln Park.

I would personally aim for one of the beach areas myself if I was new to the area.

Rents have really jumped in the past 2 years.

I avoid another term.  Perhaps you would like Lakeside, or even Boulevard.  Both very safe...lol

Gang areas in SD (Southeast & East Dago) are in my personal opinion not where I want to go on any calls.

Now my ATF who is AA lives in the hood & I do visit him in Southeast at his private home.  There are exceptions to every rule.  Depends on what you want to be close to the beaches, the action, downtown, etc...

If I was you, and moving to SD I would choose N. County Coastal, or Inland, but I am also, a huge fan of the Central SD scene.  (Fashion & Mission Valley)

SD is the greatest city in the world, so you can not mess up to bad.

I have lived in PQ, Carmel Valley, Solana Beach, Escondido, Mission & Fashion Valley all areas to me are muy bueno!

Congrats & welcome to San Diego, CA!

gangster stuff going there. The only other advice I've gotten was to stay away from Logan Heights. Don't think I can afford a pad on the beach just yet, but you have to start somewhere.
Cheers!
