SD hobby history question

AHF's talking about the $80 GFE got me thinking of ECB, and the hobby "back in the day."  I seem to remember when I was a kid, they had these places downtown called "rap parlors."  Back when Broadway had those skanky nude joints (kinda like Les Girls, but worse!) where the Emerald hotel is now, and there were all those asian bars on fourth ave.  Anybody know what rap parlors were?

Also, just for fun, check out that old George C Scott movie "Hardcore."  Lots of scenes shot downtown SD showing all those clubs and stuff.  Wish I had pics of that whole scene.  Very "AnchorMan."  There are still tastes of it around, like the ChiChi on Broadway, and the Star bar on E I think.  As well as the Trophy Lounge in National City.

I wish I'd been around then.

be wearing a hair shirt and flaying yourself, to see what's become of 'nuestra cosa.'

Or in the words of a famous story by Arthur C. Clarke: "I Remember Babylon"

It looks like it must have been unbelievable, especially with all of the Navy stuff downtown.  I started hanging out there around 1980, just as it was going away.  Even then, I was too young to know what was going on.  I remember being confused when a friend of mine and I crammed into a booth to watch a super-8 film for a quarter, and the guy who worked there was all upset about two guys being in a booth.  Didn't know anything about what the "lewd behavior" signs were for.  Still don't, actually... :-)

ahhh...Trophy Lounge!.  Reeled in a few back a time ago

I saw "Hardcore" a couple of months ago and was really struck by the San Diego it showcased.  I am not a native to this area, and I was blown away by how skanky the whole area used to be.  Made me want to build a time machine with several thousand $ and invest in real estate...

But those places did look like a hell of a lot of fun, in a naughty way...

i'm curious, how do i get a hold of this movie?  thanks in advance.

Blockbuster or netflix to start. It's a general release movie. Not a porno.

I'd like to hear more about ECB back in the day.  Sounds like heaven.

The thing I remember is the smell. Hot summer evenings, and nobody was washing up between clients (since a lot of it was happening in the cars).  And everyone worked pretty fast. And you were always looking in your rear view mirror the whole time.

Remember the Star Massage Parlors, had some fine women, also another place San Diego Clean & Vac(true name) it was on 30th.
