Article in Today's UT.  Oceanside PD has posted a list of convicted Prostitutes and Customers on their website.

I have lived in Oceanside for a couple of years and just thought that there were no prostitutes. I guess that the 1 or 2 times I cruised the main drag, there were none out on the street. I guess that they mainly congregate in a 4 block area of Coast Highway. Where those 4 blocks are, I have no idea.

The list is also being published in the Coast News and Rick Roberts is going to read it on the air each week or whenever OPD gets it to him.  The NC Times and Union Tribune have both so far refused to publish it.

The idea to begin publishing names again came at the suggestion of City Councilman Jack Feller. Feller was invited to ride along with an officer to see what happened when a female police officer posed as a prostitute.

“It seemed as soon as she went in the street, cars swarmed around propositioning her,” said Feller. “There were four arrests in one hour and that was only because the paperwork couldn’t be done faster. Otherwise, I bet they could have arrested 10 johns in an hour.”

The ONLY qualification Rick Roberts has for being on the air is that he has a deep voice.  Period.

No, they're not claiming a 100% conviction rate.  The ONLY ones they're publishing are those who have been convicted.  Remember in this country there is a "presumption of innocence until proven guilty".  If they published those who had been arrested and not convicted and they (those whe were arrested) were later found not guilty, they would be leaving themselves open to a big slander suit.

They're immune from slader suits.  They're a municipality.  It's the law of the State.  Hello?  Phrase "Waiver of Sovereign Immunity" ring a bell?

Point being: Oceanside's statistics are slanted.  They give the reader the impression that all who are arrested are convicted.  That's false, in their own interest.
