Any recommendations for a hotel downtown, it's special occasion and want to be in a nice surrounding with a nice lady, price is not a factor.

Thanks.

I was at the Westin Horton Plaza last week for 5 days.  Absolutely wonderful!  Walking distance to the Gaslamp District.  A suggestion would be to get on Priceline and put in $99.00 in dowtown SD.  I've done that twice and got the Westin both times.

Let's see...

Classic:  Westgate Hotel on Broadway....VERY classy place.  I think that every employee there is from Europe and the rooms are early 1900's.
or
U.S Grant Hotel...right in the Gaslamp.  This hotel is where Wyatt Erp (I know that isn't how you spell it) and his wife would stay in the early 1900's...uniqe and classy

Modern:  Hyatt Downtown...make sure you get a floor that is on a high floor.  Can't beat the views from this place.
or
Omni Hotel...this one is cool because it is connected to Horton Plaza and still walking distance to the Gaslamp.

Hope that helps.

My favorite is actually Hyatt.  I don't know if it is still open or not, there used to be a bar at the top level, and you could usually see the San Diego's Rich and Powerful.

I agree with Kylie, the "W" is a hot place to be at. The upstairs "beach" bar is not to be missed. Although it is outdoors with sand on the floor, it is heated. I often go there on Friday nights just to watch the crowd.

take it from me.....

the closest joint to be the classiest is the new Hyatt downtown.......the udders don't even come close...W is
weak - been there not impressed at all. New Hyatt is closest
to Vegas like hotel this chump town of city called san diego
has. Still waitin for the new ballpark. For a city this size, we
sure lag the other major metropolitan areas in services,
sports teams, community activities (excluding OTL tourney),
even the beaches although nice lack a lot in comparison to other cities. But , alas, the weather can not be beaten -
fade to violin music in background......

The Horton Grand is a liitle great little secret tucked away in the Gaslamp District. It provides a Victorian hideway while in downtown San Diego. I also suggest seeing Triple Espresso, two hours of non-stop laughter around the corner at Horton Grand Thearter.

I have stayed at the Hyatt and the Marriott downtown.

Both have nice rooms, the Hyatt is really nice has a fantastic lobby and the ski-high bar is excellent, but sometimes crowded.

I have stayed at W's before and have never been dissapointed.  The one in SD sounds fantastic, and probably offers a nice unique setting that is bit better than the usual.

I have seen the horton from the outside, and it has an awesome location right in the gaslamp district, which is a great place to hang out, walk around, see and be seen.

Comparing San Diego to Las Vegas is like comparing the finest and classiest courtesan to a crack whore on El Cajon Blvd.
