Question about locations

I am planning on coming to San Diego 7/24 for a few days and will likely be staying in a hotel at the harbor.  I am trying to figure out what parts of town are close to there because when doing a search I really don't have a clue where some of the locations mentioned are.  Is this area where I'll be staying called downtown, airport or something else?  Is the gaslight area close?  Are there any areas to avoid?  Is this too many questions for one post? :)

I assume you mean a hotel by the water downtown (since we have do have lots of harbors).  In that case, the Gaslamp area is very very close.  Airport area is a quick taxi ride away, as are Mission Hills, Hillcrest, etc.   A lot of providers are in Mission Valley, which is a little further away but again a pretty easy taxi ride or rental car ride.  Some providers are in Pacific Beach, which is probably just a little further away from you than Mission Valley.  Don't worry about North County, Carlsbad, etc. - those are all too far away.  What you do need to worry about it Comic-Con, which will still be going on while you are here.  It may be hard to get to your hotel, but at least there'll be many interesting sights to see.

If you don't own one, I recommend getting a GPS, or if you have a smart phone, get a gps app for it. And of course if your situation permits, why not outcall.
